Laser-induced plasmas were created by irradiating KrF eximer laser pulses on different substrates such as Si, Al, Fe and Co. A transverse magnetic field was applied to confine the plasmas. Plasma life times were measured using a fast phototube and a fast oscilloscope in the presence and absence of a magnetic field. The results indicate that the life times of the laser-induced plasmas were enhanced by the magnetic field. The relationships of the enhancement and atomic weight were studied and the results will be presented.
