Profil project concerns direct manufacturing by two additive processes which are laser metal deposition and selective laser sintering. The involved partners are the GIFAS group (DASSAULT AVIATION, MBDA, EUROCOPTER, SNECMA, EADS), School of Mines (Centre des Materiaux) and GIP-Gerailp. During the first year of the project, the OPTOMEC 850R machine was bought and set up in the GIP-GERAILP laboratory. It was the first OPTOMEC machine in Europe and, now it was in service and ready to start the experimental work following the road map. The objectives of this paper are to define the process window with the optimised conditions from the tensile specimens. Input parameters are defined with two levels of criticality. For first level of criticality, laser power, scanning speed and powder flow speed are considered. Output parameters concern geometrical features (the apparent thickness of the specimen, the apparent layer height, the depth of thermal affected zone), the metallurgical state and the process mass efficiency. This study enables to determine the relationships between the input parameters and output parameters : process mapping are established and the Iso-output parameters curves are drawn.
