Laser-assisted production of spherical TiO2 nanoparticles has been carried out in water. A metallic titanium target was used as precursor material for the nanoparticles production. The titanium target was placed in de-ionized water and submitted to the irradiation of an ytterbium doped fibre laser. The resulting colloidal solutions were subjected to laser radiation to study the resizing effect. Nanoparticles were characterized by means of transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), selected area electron diffraction (SAED), X-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and UV-vis absorption spectroscopy. Almost perfect spherical titanium dioxide nanoparticles with diameters ranging from 3 to 40 nm were obtained.
