Innovation and invention are the hallmark of the American economy and enables ideas to flourish from humble origin to global marketplace. A combination of ingenuity, infrastructure and investment (I3) created a technology transfer ecosystem, which produced many a success story surpassing all other economies in the world. This paper describes the journey of photon from a laboratory to a factory floor, both for manufacturing and measurement with two different paths.
