Laser GMA hybrid welding which has been invented by Bill Steen in the late Seventies of the last century is gaining in importance in the metal-working industry. For this reason, the process is also in the special focus of interest in the fields of research and development. Irregularities in the arc welding process are w...$28.00

The hybrid welding process, which combines two welding processes together (e.g. laser and an arc), has received much consideration in recent years as a high speed, highly competent, excellent quality welding process which recompenses weaknesses of the individual welding processes. A variety of experiments in laser/MIG/MAG hybrid weldin...$28.00

Attosecond Physics
Authors:

Presented at ICALEO 2007
Fundamental processes in atoms, molecules, as well as condensed matter are triggered or mediated by the motion of electrons inside or between atoms. Electronic dynamics on atomic length scales tends to unfold within tens to thousands of attoseconds (1 attosecond [as] = 10-18 s). Recent breakthroughs in laser science are now opening the door to watching and controlling these hitherto inaccessible microscopic dynamics. The key to accessing the attosecond time domain is the control of ...$28.00

Steel shafts can be hardened by laser using one continuous spiral track. This method however leads to a hardening zone which is not homogeneous in surface hardness and case depth. This is primarily due to the hemispherical shape of the hardening track as well as to tempering effects between two neighboring tracks of the spiral. A new method was developed to solve this problem for cylindrical shafts. The laser hardening was performed by rotating the shafts at a very high speed and by h...$28.00

Laser forming has been shown effective as a non-contact bending technique for 0.15 mm thickness cantilever beams made from Neyoro G, a high-strength, high-reflectivity, high thermal conductivity material. The current work reports on efforts to extend laser forming to miniature 3-D axisymmetric shapes from similar thickness originally flat discs. In conventional spin forming, a rotating sheet metal disk is formed over a shape...

Laser cladding based Direct Metal Deposition (DMD) has received significant attention due to its diversified potential for material processing. Numerical modeling not only helps to understand the complex physical phenomena involved in this process, it can also be used in the process prediction and system control. The evolution of temperature and velocity fields, composition profile during multiple track laser cladding observed during Direct Metal Depositi...$28.00

Presented at ICALEO 2007
A shear test was used to investigate the effect of shielding gas (Argon, Nitrogen and none) on the properties of laser spot welds in Fe-28Ni-17Co alloy (Kovar). The load vs. displacement curves obtained, while superficially resembling those of a standard tensile test, were quite non-reproducible, and obscured the differences due to process conditions. Fractographic examination of the samples and analysis of the testing ...$28.00
