Laser Cutting for Medical Device (Stent) - Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow (Invited Presentation - 40 Minutes)
Authors:
Li Chen, Abbott Vascular; Santa Clara CA USA
Presented at ICALEO 2008
Lasers are commonly used for welding; drilling, cutting, marking, and other material processing. One of the more demanding industrial laser applications is micro cutting. Laser cutting stent is a typical micro cutting application in the medical device industry. A stent is a small, mesh-like device made of metal. When a stent is placed inside of a coronary artery, it acts as a support or scaffold, keeping the vessel open. By keeping the vessel open, the stent helps to improve blood flow to the heart muscle and ...$28.00

Low elastic modulus, superior corrosion resistant, significantly reduced field of ignition and high biocompatibility of Ti-45Nb have attracted a wide interest for various applications including medical implants, highly corrosive and oxygenated environments such as autoclaves, pressure vessels and heat exchangers. Furthermore, clad metal constructions offer a considerable cost reduction for equipment of...$28.00

We describe rapid prototyping of a micro-channel branching network into silicon wafer with a femtosecond pulsed fiber laser. The branching network is designed as a blood oxygenator. This network bifurcates according to Murrays Law over 11 generations with depths ranging from 20µm to 200µm, and satisfies the necessity of equal path lengths. In development of such micro-f...$28.00
