    Authors:
Barbara Previtali, Politecnico Di Milano; Milano Italy
Edorado Capello, Politecnico di Milano; Milan Italy
    Presented at ICALEO 2007

In the automotive world, increasing demands regarding weight, safety, and cost have led to the introduction of the so-called advanced high-strength steels (AHSS) . During forming processes, compared to conventional steels, AHSS steel usually has higher yield strengths and much higher ultimate tensile strengths, which require higher press loads and produce greater springback and die wear.
Heat treating just the areas which are mainly involved in high deformation, could be a ...

Diode Pump Engines for Open Architecture Solid State Lasers
    Authors:
    Chandler Kennedy, Northrop Grumman; USA
Jay Doster, Northrop Grumman Cutting Edge Optronics; Saint Charles MO USA
    Presented at ICALEO 2007

The field of laser applications is so broad that a multitude of laser architectures is needed to satisfy it. This multitude of architectures, however, may be powered by comparatively few optical "engines" designed specifically to allow the laser designer the greatest freedom and flexibility in tailoring his design to reliably meet each application's unique set of specifications. We present here a family of such diode pumped laser amplifier modules and their principal charact...

  • ICALEO 2007 Paper #502 (High Power Diode Lasers for Industrial Applications)

High Power Diode Lasers for Industrial Applications
    Authors:
Wolfgang Horn, DILAS Diodenlaser GmbH; Mainz Germany
    Presented at ICALEO 2007

New wavelengths, high brightness and increasing reliability are breaking new ground for diode lasers. The higher brightness allows direct fibre coupling of several 100 W in 200 μm and 400 μm fibres and therefore the pumping of fibre lasers. Such high power fibre coupled laser diodes combined with fast beam deflection units (Galvo Scanners) have been implemented in industrial processes and used for quasi-simultaneous welding of polymers, heat treatment in the sub millimetre range or selective soldering in solar cell production. Available as modules or as tu...

  • ICALEO 2007 Paper #501 (Diode Pump Requirements for High Power Fiber Lasers)

Diode Pump Requirements for High Power Fiber Lasers
    Authors:
Bryce Samson, Nufern; East Granby CT USA
Gavin Frith, Nufern; East Granby CT USA
    Presented at ICALEO 2007

The single most important factor in the recent power scaling of CW fiber lasers has been the continuing improvement in fiber coupled, high brightness pump diodes. As the available power/brightness per module has increased the cost associated with pumping a fiber laser has decreased and in turn the available CW power from a single fiber laser has increased from 100W to over a kWatt. In this talk we review some of the unique requirements associated with pumping high power fiber lasers in various architectures, the roa...
