This paper concerns the Laser Adhesion Test of coatings. It consists in using shock wave produced by laser to generate stresses at interfaces. Basics are related to spallation of bulk material. Ranges of laser pulse duration from fs to ns and intensity from GW/cm2 to TW/cm2 allow new shock wave configurations to test a wide range of coatings (material, Muli-layers l, thickness). This paper presents recent experiments and developments on the technique. Specific experimental protocol coupled with numerical simulations show the ability of LASAT to do a quantitative adhesion test. Fundamental phenomenas are evidendced with bulk materials before demonstration for applied coatings : Hydroxyhapatite, Thermal Barrier, Composite (Epoxy reinforced by carbon fiber) and thin coating for solar cells.
