Fiber-reinforced polymers are applied more and more in the aircraft industry, as well as the automobile industry. The possibility for spheric variation of structure properties by the adaptation of fiber layers and fiber orientation within the material enables a wide range of applications. Newly developed TFP (Tailored Fiber Placement) structures are characterized by highest weight-based strengths. But this process requires special after-process steps. The use of scanner based processing systems enables flexible laser ablation of the fixation layer, which is needed during the TFP process. For that, high power CO2 or YAG laser are used. In combination with camera systems, a flexible part processing will be possible. The paper shows the whole process layout in combination with first experimental results.
