Presented at ICALEO 2012

An investigation is described that studies the effect of angle of beam incidence using ytterbium fiber laser cladding of alloy 625 (UNS N06625) on matching substrate. The trials include single pass without powder feeding and single pass, 3 pass upslope and 3 pass downslope with powder feeding. Power is held constant in initial single pass trials and then adjusted to maintain constant power density in both single pass and 3 pass trials. Quantified effects of angle of beam incidence include area of melted substrate, area of clad above substrate, dilution, powder capture efficiency, side bead angles and progression.
