Presented at PICALO 2008

We study the sidewall surface roughness of chamber in the PMMA-base microfuidic chip which was cutting with CW CO2 laser. Our observations shows that the roughness is resulted from the bubble burst and form the residues. In order to improve the quality of the surface, we proposed a very easy way which just put the chip in high suitable ambient temperature, found that at 70-90°C would obtain the lowest roughness, the best result is roughness Ra= 100.86nm. CO2 Cutting to form chamber for the microfluidic chip fabrication has high efficiency and high quality, combine with CO2 fabricating microchannel, CO2 laser systems will be the cheapness and high efficiency system for microfluidic chip fabrication.
