Although the austenitic stainless steel grades are commonly considered to be quite an easy weldable, there are certain applications which make exception to above statement. As an example, which has also attributed to this study, it could be mentioned a welded assembly which forms a very rigid structure. In above mentioned struc...$28.00

Laser welding gives better penetration than conventional welding methods and can significantly increase the welding speed. Use of laser hybrid welding can further enhance the welding speed by improving gap bridgeability and allowing the addition of filler metal to facilitate welding of special grades. Fiber laser gas-metal arc (GMA) hybrid welding was performed on 8 mm austenitic 316L (EN 1.4404/ 1.4432, UNS S316L) and duplex 2205 (EN 1.4462, UNS S31805) stainless steel with the recommended filler wires. Both le...$28.00

With the ever increasing power and performance of fiber lasers, autogenous laser welding is becoming more practical for thick-section welding applications. High-power, high beam quality lasers can produce high aspect ratio welds at productive travel speeds with minimal distortion. However, autogenous laser welding can produce undercutting or other geometric stress concentrations at the weld toes. Through the design of custom optics, the laser beam can be d...$28.00

A computer generated hologram (CGH) has been designed and fabricated for laser transformation hardening with a high-power diode laser. A laser intensity distribution to obtain a uniform hardened depth in a steel plate has been determined by the three-dimensional dynamic thermal analysis based on the finite element method. The optimized laser intensity distributi...$28.00

Integrated manufacturing with the laser combi-head allows to perform cutting and welding operations with a single tool. Thus an arbitrary and instantaneous change of processes becomes possible. First industrial applications demonstrate flexible production with technical and economical advantages resulting from shorter process chains, and higher accuracy by using a single tool center point for both processes. This even supersedes seam tracking. Besides 2D-applica...$28.00

Presented at ICALEO 2008
Laser beam welding has been used for joining zinc coated steel in automotive industry. However, it is still a great challenge to weld coated steel in overlap configuration because of the low boiling temperature of the zinc compared with the melting temperature of the steel. To date welding is normally undertaken when a gap is present between the plates, introduced prior to welding, or when welding with a modified laser beam, such as using elongated or...$28.00
