Authors:
Hau Chung Man, Laser Processing Group, Advanced Manufacturing Technology Research Centre; Kowloon Hong Kong
Presented at ICALEO 2005
Laser surface alloying technique was applied to syntheses a porous coating on NiTi shape memory alloy. The pores are uniformly distributed and are interconnected with each other in the coating. An average pore size of less than 10 micron was achieved. The porous coating is metallurgically bonded to the substrate NiTi alloy. The microstructure and corrosion properties of the coating will be discussed and compared with that of the laser gas nitrided layer. The possibility of applying the alloy with ...$28.00

Under single-pulse and multi-pulse modes, the characteristics of copper oxides removal are comparably investigated. A two-dimensional model is utilized to numerically simulate the laser removal process and assist the investigation. In the model, property discontinuity and Stephan and kinetic boundary condition are taken into account, and the moving phase-interface ...$28.00

Presented at ICALEO 2005
The objective of this work is to improve the surface properties of coatings on polymeric substrates by laser surface treatment. The coating can be deposited by different techniques such as physical vapor deposition, conventional chemical vapor deposition, laser chemical vapor deposition and low temperature thermal spray. The polymeric substrates can be laser-treated first to create a regular, roll-like texture and carbon-rich laser-modified surface to improve the subs...$28.00

Micro machining with the laser requires very small spots. The focus is often in the range of below 10 micron. With standard beam diagnostic systems it is difficult to observe this tool of the processing. Often these processes are designed to operate in the UV. Standard CCD camera systems are only opt...$28.00

Presented at ICALEO 2005
The characteristics and dynamics of laser-induced silicon plasmas under the confinement of magnetic field with different intensities in atmosphere have been investigated. A strong magnetic field up to 1.05 Tesla was produced by two permanent magnets. A KrF excimer laser with a wavelength of 248 nm and a pulse width of 23 ns was used to produce plasmas which expanded across...$28.00
