Presented at ICALEO 2011
Grain boundary engineering (GBE) became a viable means of enhancing the bulk properties of conventional polycrystalline materials. In fact, intergranular corrosion (IGC) starts from surface and gradually penetrates into interior of the component. Therefore, grain boundary engineering the near surface of the specimens will benefit for improvement of IGC resistance.
The aim of this presentation is to investigate the effect of laser shocking and annealing treatment on the nea...$28.00

Optical-phased array (OPA) controls the phase of each array element to make the relative phases constant between the elements. When a linear phase slope is impressed across OPA in one dimension, the random non-mechanical beam steering has been accomplished. OPA not only has the predominance of light-weight, high precise, agile a...$28.00

Presented at ICALEO 2011
Growth of an oxide layer on the surface of stainless steel and titanium are shown to lead to color formation of the surface. This growth is demonstrated using a MOPA fiber laser by either control of power delivery to the surface or by changing of pulse parameters without change of average power. Color change of the surface is also shown linked to the change of chemical composition of the surface and growth of an oxide layer.$28.00

Since the exchange coupling theory was proposed by Kneller and Hawig in 1991 there has been a significant effort within the magnetic materials community to enhance the performance of rare earth magnets by utilising nanocomposite metamaterials. Inclusions of magnetically soft iron smaller than approximately 10 nm in diameter are exchange coupled to a surroun...$28.00
