The Japanese Way of Knowledge Transfer
Authors:
Hiroyuki Niino, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Advanced Laser and Process Technology Research Association (ALPROT); Tsukuba Japan
Presented at ICALEO 2012
Japan is certainly one of the leading nations in laser technology and in laser applications. This talk is discussed about Japanese-style of research structures and funding systems, which assure a target-oriented cooperation between fundamental and industrial research in laser-related national projects. Furthermore, the current research program funded by NEDO (New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization) and METI (Ministry of Economy, ...$28.00

The Brazilian Way of Knowledge Transfer
Authors:
Walter Lindolfo Weingaertner, Precision Engineering Laboratory LMP (Laboratório de Mecânica de Precisão), Univ. Federal de Santa Catarina; Florianópolis Brazil
Presented at ICALEO 2012
Brazilian industrialization started to be significant after World War II. Governmental decisions to put the transport on roads and away from the rails turned on the need to build Brazilian cars, trucks and busses and new roads crossed the country.
Universities were designed to be higher education schools. Research was written in small letters and in the natural sciences area mainly were supported basic researches, as in physics. There was no model availabl...$28.00

Jyoti Mazumder, Robert H Lurie Professor of Mechanical and Materials Science and Engineering, Univ. of Michigan; Ann Arbor MI USA
Presented at ICALEO 2012
Innovation and invention are the hallmark of the American economy and enables ideas to flourish from humble origin to global marketplace. A combination of ingenuity, infrastructure and investment (I3) created a technology transfer ecosystem, which produced many a success story surpassing all other economies in the world. This paper describes the journey of photon from a laboratory to a factory floor, both for manufacturing and measurement with two different paths.$28.00

All Passive Optical Design Laser Beam Analyzer for High Power CO2 Lasers
Authors:
Michael Scaggs, Haas Laser Technologies, Inc.; Flanders NJ USA
Gil Haas, Haas Laser Technologies, Inc.; Flanders NJ USA
Presented at ICALEO 2012
A compact, all passive optical design laser beam analyzer has been developed which can analyze a focused laser beam from a CO2 laser with a wavelength range of 9.4 microns to 10.6 microns and provide real time M-squared, spot size, astigmatism, beam divergence, Rayleigh length and focal position values. The instrument utilizes a special Fabry-Perot resonator and a bolometer sensor which provides a complete beam waist caustic in real time. The unique optical d...$28.00
