Laser welding has shown a lot of advantages over the currently widely used resistance spot welding for automobile assembly application. These include cost savings (due to increased production speed, reduced assembly line length, etc.) and performance improvement (increased stiffness, less heat affected zone width and distortion etc). The only major problem that prevents the application of laser welding to mass production application is the zinc exp...$28.00

This paper concerns the study of the laser drilling in percussion regime which is used extensively in aeronautical industries. In this case, the drilling is dominated by melt ejection induced by recoil pressure. Experimental understanding study of such process is complicated due to the number of parameters and the laser sources ...$28.00

Presented at ICALEO 2005
The effects of hybrid welding parameters on porosity formation in fillet joint have been investigated by using primer-coated AH36 steel. X-ray transmission images revealed that most of porosities in fillet joint were observed near back bead and the shapes of these porosities were similar to blow holes. From elemental mappings using EPMA near porosities, we could presume that the porosity formation was not attributed to Zn metal, which was contained within primer. From the investigation o...$28.00

Presented at ICALEO 2005
Investigations include alloying the X40CrMoV5-1 hot-work tool steel surface layer with the tungsten carbide, using the high power diode laser (HPDL). The structural mechanism was determined of surface layers development, effect was studied of alloying parameters, gas protection method, and thickness of paste layer applied onto the steel surface on structure refinement and influence of these factors on the mechanical properties of surface layer, and esp...$28.00

Stereolithography (SL) has been the first available system of rapid prototyping processes and it?s actually the most widespread one in the world market.
The aim of the paper is to propose a statistical analysis to quantitatively evaluate how largely each SL process parameter contributes to the mechanical properties of built parts.
A specific specimen was designed and built according to ASTM D 638 ? 99. A...$28.00

The aim of this study is a comparison of the performances obtained with laser Nd:YAG welding (with cold wire) and hybrid welding (laser + MAG ) on a high strength steel. Due to the thickness to be welded (up to 16 mm), multipasses procedure has been developed for both techniques. Parameters optimisation (groove geometry, wire speed, shielding gas) ...$28.00

Near-field enhancement around nano-ridges and nano-tips at 532 nm pulsed laser irradiation is utilized to produce sub-wavelength line or dot pattern on gold thin films deposited on glass substrates. The ridges and tips, which have end radii on the order of 50 nm, were fabricated out of silicon dioxide thin film on silicon by micro-fabrication techniques. A 30 nm chromium thin film was eva...$28.00
